Channel Island Top

Custom bar to add warmth and depth to a stunning kitchen.

The commission for the Channell Island Top was to accent the clients newly built home with a custom piece to become the focal point of the area. The clients envisioned a large reclaimed wood island top to be the centerpiece for family gatherings and entertaining in their open concept kitchen area.

A smooth surface was needed while also retaining the defining characteristics of reclaimed wood (saw marks, nail holes, etc.) Starting with a mix of hardwood boards reclaimed from a small barn in Clearfield county, each void was filled with black-dyed epoxy prior to milling to ensure a smooth flat surface and to achieve the perfect blend of function and reclaimed beauty. The live-edge, curly maple breadboard ends are pinned in place with black walnut dowels to keep the countertop flat for years to come. Rubio Monocoat tinted in Slate Grey was applied for a custom color, followed up by an application of Odie’s Wax, buffed to a satin sheen to increase its durability and water resistance.
